I recently acquired a 1914 postcard showing the original clubhouse of the Washtenaw Country Club near the railroad tracks that once ran along what is now Packard Road.
Although the caption on this postcard says “Ypsilanti Country Club,” the clubhouse is that of what was then the Washtenaw Country Club (now the Washtenaw Golf Club).
The postcard shown below is another that I own, dating to 1913. It is clearly the same building, just from another angle.

The postcard above is the same one that appears in the pages of Washtenaw Country Club’s 100th anniversay commemorative book.

This clubhouse was replaced in 1929 with a bigger, fancier building to accomodate what was then 300 members.

Unfortunately, the timing could not have been worse. The stock market crashed, and the club barely survived.
If you have a fondness for classic courses, as I do, you owe it to yourself to try Washtenaw Golf Club.
