TRUE OG3 Pro Golf Shoes Review
True OG3 Pro Golf Shoes
Grade: A+
Teacher’s Comments: The best TRUE has made yet … and that’s saying something.
I make no secret of my love for TRUE golf shoes (and of the company’s offerings in general). I wear their shoes constantly — not just on the course, but off. I’ve got a pair on my feet right now (blue FS-01s, which are among many pair I bought on my own dime.)
The TRUE OG3 Pro is the latest iteration of TRUE’s original minimalist, zero-drop, wide-footbed walking shoe. It retains all the things I liked about that shoe and adds more aggressive treads, and a more modern, sneakerlike look. The original TRUE, from 2009, frankly looked much more like a moccasin and the treads, while adequate likely were not enough for faster swingers.

As a dedicated walking golf, I am particular about what goes on my feet. I like a shoe with a softer, flexible sole and room for the toes to move. There’s also a narrow “just enough” window for padding. Too much, and it feels as though I’ve lost contact with the gound. Not enough, and my soles get fatigued.
On the golf side, my take is that good golf shoes offer lateral support, particularly around the instep and a tread that lets me push off with one foot while feeling planted with the other. For my swing, flex in the soles is also important. I like the toes be able to flex.
The TRUE OG3 Pro checks all the boxes. Walking and playing in them is a pleasure. They have just the right amount of padding, flex and traction.

Central to TRUE’s DNA is the shoe’s “zero drop” (or low drop) platform. What this means is that the plane from heel to toe is level. It’s the closest thing one can get to playing barefoot without dousing bare skin in fertilizers and weed killer.
Sam Snead once played the first and ninth holes of the Masters barefoot. He swore that playing barefoot would help learn proper footwork and end over-swinging.
Compare that to shoes where the heel is higher than the toes. There is an inherent imbalance in that.
Mark Millerd, TRUE’s Director of International sales said: “Simply put, this platform “is the most natural and ergonomic position for your feet. The zero-drop – which means it’s level from heel to toe – does not place additional stress on the forefoot, and higher up the chain. A wide footbed enables the toes to function from a position of strength and stability, rather than restricting their movement. The goal is always to provide a neutral platform that follows the shape of a person’s actual foot. This combination of wide toe box, zero drop and flexibility allows the foot to function as intended. Artificial stiffening, excessive heel stack height, and tapered footbeds often contribute to discomfort and footwear-related issues.”
As one would expect from a premium golf shoe, the OG3 Pros have a two year waterproof guarantee. The interior has a waterproof bootie, which keeps the foot dry. Waterproofing is an essential for this dewsweeper.
A last note: the shoe has a “easy on” tongue system, which really does make it easier to slip my feet into the shoe while balancing on the tailgate of my Subaru.
So how much do I like these? After trying the pair TRUE sent to me, I bought a second pair to keep at the cottage in “Up North” Michigan. I never want to play without them.
