John Quigley, Anika Dy Win Season-Ending Tournament of Champions Titles

ANN ARBOR – John Quigley (above, left), a Michigan Publix Golf Association member from Sterling Heights, and Anika Dy (above, right) of Bay Meadows Family Golf Course in Traverse City, proved to be the champions among the champions Monday at Travis Pointe Country Club.

Quigley won the men’s title and Dy the women’s title in the season-concluding 2025 GAM Tournament of Champions presented by BOYNE Golf.

The tournament featured 2025 golf club champions and tournament champions from across the state. The GAM Senior Tournament of Champions is on Tuesday at Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township.

Quigley shot a 1-under 71, getting a key birdie on the 18th hole, to win.

Tyler Ziccardi of Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden shot 72 and finished second.

David Praet of Lake Orion, last month’s GAM Mid-Amateur champion, and Dave Kurtz of Indianwood Golf & Country Club were next with 74s.

Meanwhile, Dy was shooting a 2-under 70 to win by three shots.

Defending women’s champion Chelsea Collura of West Shore Golf & Country Club in Grosse Ile, shot 73 to finish second.

Lori Schlicher of Garland Lodge & Golf Resort and Isabella Gimenez de Garcia of Clarkston tied for third with 74s.

Quigley, the 2024 GAM Mid-Amateur Champion, said he has played in the Tournament of Champions four or five times.

“I haven’t really come close, so it was cool to compete and win,” he said. “I wasn’t paying attention to the leaderboard, and I felt like the scores were going to be lower than they were. The course was perfect. The greens were perfect, so I thought I didn’t need to watch the leaderboard. Then somebody hollered at me on 17, and when they did that, it made me hit my tee shot into 18 (fairway). I made birdie though and it feels great to win.”

Quigley, 41 and a director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, said it is a good way to finish the season.

“It was not the summer that I wanted to have, but this makes me feel better about it,” he said. “Golf just happens to be the thing where I’m good enough to compete. It’s more about the competition for me, so any competitive round I can get in, I try to compete and score.”

Dy, busy finishing post-graduate studies at the University of Michigan this summer, was playing in just her second tournament beyond events at Bay Meadows.

“I had no idea what to expect, honestly,” she said. “It’s a new tournament for me. I don’t have my normal friends and competitors around and I had no idea how I would match up with this field. But the people I played with were great and I had fun out there and was able to play well and shoot a decent score.”

The Michigan Women’s Open past champion had three birdies and an eagle-3 on the par 5 18th and overcame the double bogey at No. 8 caused by an errant tee shot and resulting unplayable lie.

“The putter was good for half of the round and that’s when I made those birdies, but it got windy towards the end which was another challenge to get through,” she said. “The nice eagle on 18 cushioned the double, so that was nice.”

Dy, 24 and a former University of Michigan golfer, said she is seeking employment with a degree in movement science and a minor in business, and hopes to continue to compete in amateur golf.

“I think playing well in the (Women’s Michigan Amateur quarterfinalist) and winning this helps show me that I want to keep playing competitively,” she said. “Looking forward to playing in a few more things next summer if I can.”
