James Piot Sets Club Record At Washtenaw
James Piot, the 2021 US Amateur Champion, is a regular at Washtenaw Golf Club (which regular readers know is my home course, and my favorite).
Today, the former LIV golf member shot a remarkable 61 at the club, breaking his own record of 62, which he shared with Donnie Trosper.
Like Piot, Trosper is a former MSU golf standout who is a regular at Washtenaw. Trosper played in the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic; Piot played in the 2025 edition, making the cut.
Note: There may be another 62 out there. I am looking into it.
Former Washtenaw Country Club Pro Tom Talkington held the course record of 63 for many years.
At 6, 720 from the tips, Washtenaw is not “long” by today’s pro standards, but the course’s real defenses are the oft-diabolical greens complexes. Scoring well requires minding the angles and sharp play with the wedges and putter. Rounds in the low sixties are quite remarkable.
