The couple of times I have been lucky enough to participate in a Pro-Am have been some of the best golf experiences of my life. It is a pleasure to closely watch a pro at work and to be able to pick their brain a bit. The parties are great and during the tournament, it’s fun to root for a player you have known through eighteen holes.
You can learn a lot about a person over eighteen holes.
Last summer, I played in the Pro-Am of the inaugural edition of the Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands. From the pre-tournament party to the pro-am to watching the weekend of competition, Boyne did a fantastic job of making it fun (as one might expect).
My group played with Crystal Wang, who was absolutely lovely to a group of retirement age men hacking their way around the course. Wang is a California gal who played at Illinois. She outdrove us on every hole but one (and we were playing it forward).
All that said, I will note that for the entire month of December, you can get 10% off a Pro-Am team registration for the 2026 edition of the Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands.
This is an entirely unsolicited advertisement. I had a good time at last year’s Pro-Am and Tournament; I think that the tournament is important to Northern Michigan’s Harbor Springs / Petoskey area; and I believe it would be an unforgettable gift for the golfer in your life.
