The Golf Association of Michigan’s Boys Championship is underway at Washtenaw Golf Club.
This is the second year of the Championship, and the second year hosted at Washtenaw.
Earlier this season, Washtenaw hosted the GAM Girls Championship.
The GAM Girls Championship and the GAM Boys Championship are the successors to the old GAM Junior Kickoff, with its mixed field and spring scheduling. That tournament, however, had the disadvantage of potential conflicts with the Michigan High School athletic schedule, which schedules the boys season in the spring.

That Washtenaw set aside four days of the season for juniors competitions speaks to the commitment to growing the game of owners Dave Kendall, Nick Ma and Steve Davis. Kudos also to PGA pro Zach Szawara, course Superintendent Mark Pappas , General Manager Tim Czerniawski and the rest of the staff who are working hard to make the experience a great one for the kids.
Washtenaw has a long history of hosting championships, including the 1927 Michigan Amateur and the 1955 Michigan Open. At the 1955 Michigan Open, three Major Championship winners played at the club: Horton Smith (1934 and 1936 Masters), Chick Harbert (1954 PGA) and Walter Burkemo (1953 PGA).
Washtenaw has also hosted an LPGA Futures Tour (now the Epson) tournament and numerous qualifiers for state championships.

The GAM Boy’s Championship tournament format is 36 holes of stroke play over two days. An overall champion and 15-and-under champion will be crowned.
