COBRA And Chipotle Team Up For Golf’s Most Delicious Limited-Edition Collab

I don’t think there’s an official list of the greatest golf and golf-adjacent collaborations of all time but if there were, COBRA and Chipotle teaming up to serve fresh accessories would crack the top five.

If nothing else, it’s better than the last (and probably only) golf x local fast food Mexican joint collab. Remember that time Callaway put Taco Bell logos on a Chrome Soft? Some dude is selling those for $150 each on eBay.

Anyway, the background here, beyond burritos being awesome, is that COBRA staffer Max Homa is a huge Chipotle fan so why not, I guess, celebrate that with a headcover that looks like a foil-wrapped burrito and a shag bag that looks loosely like a Chipotle to-go bag?

It’s peak sponsor relationship goals

Look, we’ve all been there. You mention in passing that you really love something (often irrationally). Maybe it’s your favorite coffee shop, an obscure sock brand or a rain jacket from a company nobody knows how to pronounce. Your friends nod politely and move on. But if you’re Max Homa and you mention Chipotle, COBRA says, “Hold our guac.”

Most guys get fitted for a new driver and call it a day. Homa gets a full COBRA deal AND gets his burrito obsession turned into golf accessories that he’ll reportedly debut at the Memorial Tournament.

To borrow from Kyle Porter: “Normal sport.”

“COBRA has always been a leader in making the game of golf more approachable and this collaboration is no different,” Homa said. (Probably while eating a burrito bowl with extra everything.)

COBRA x Chipotle shag bag

The stuff nobody knew they needed

The star of this collab is obviously the foil-wrapped burrito headcover. I’m not sure what kind of metric this is but if my daughter played golf, she would definitely want it.

The golf ball shag bag looks like a Chipotle to-go bag. So now you can walk around the short-game area looking like you’re hauling a family dinner instead of just collecting the carnage from your chunked wedges.

The limited-edition gear goes on sale exclusively at cobragolf.com May 27. Homa is also giving away 250 free burrito headcovers via his Instagram. Using the eBay Taco Bell Chrome Soft model, that’s roughly $37,500 worth of stuff.

COBRA x Chipotle

This actually makes sense

While the logic behind the collab may not be immediately apparent, it kinda makes sense.

Hear me out.

Both golf and Chipotle involve a lot of waiting, agonizing over ultimately unimportant choices, spending more money than you planned and feeling immediate regret followed by doing it all over again next week.

I’m starting to wonder why nobody thought of it sooner.

The bigger picture, maybe

A burrito headcover might seem absurd but this is exactly the kind of thing golf needs more of. The sport has spent decades taking itself way too seriously. Here comes Max Homa and COBRA saying, “What if we just had some fun with this?”

After a rough front nine, wouldn’t you rather reach for your bag and see a cheerful burrito headcover than whatever boring corporate logo you’re currently sporting? Why not replace your golf brand logo with an entirely different corporate logo?

Take that, capitalism!

It’s a reminder that golf is supposed to be enjoyable, even when you’re hitting it sideways.

Whether this inspires other fast-casual chains to get into golf remains to be seen but I’ll tell you right now: I’m all in on Titleist X White Castle. Give me a Craver Case worth of Pro V1s and a Cheesecake On-A-Stick-themed Scotty.

Maybe that’ll happen in time for the Ryder Cup.

For now, we can all appreciate COBRA and Chipotle for giving us exactly what we didn’t know we wanted: the chance to make our golf bags look like we just crushed a dinner order on the way to the first tee.

A reminder: the headcover and shag bag will be available exclusively at cobragolf.com starting May 27. These will probably sell out faster than you can say “double meat (and don’t be stingy).”
