Clio Country Club Hosting 35th GAM Net Team Qualifying

   CLIO – A member-owned private club with a unique history, Clio Country Club, will host the 35th GAM Net Team Championship presented by Michigan Golf Live on Monday.

  A field of 80 teams, or 160 golfers, including combinations of men, women and some family duos, will play 18 holes with net four-ball scoring.

  At least eight teams emerging from play on Monday will advance to the final day of the championship on Sept. 18 at Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield.

   Clio CC hosted the Michigan Net Amateur Championship a year ago. Its unique history reflects member fundraising for the development of the club and hands-on work by the members on the golf course. When it was constructed in 1961 and 62 for an opening in 1963, part of the construction work was completed by members, including members who donated the use of heavy equipment, and much of the finishing work of removing rocks and raking before seeding was performed by members as well.

  The result from a design by architect Fred Ellis was a traditional parkland style course with classic lines and a reputation as well-maintained, challenging, fair, and fun. It plays to 6,820 yards maximum and offers six tee options, including two hybrid yardage setups.

  In last year’s finals, which were also at Plum Hollow, Justin Scollin of Royal Oak and Matt White of Berkley won. Scollin is a Plum Hollow member, and they are returning to the qualifying day to defend their championship.  Kevin Howley and Ray Foley of Northville finished second, and they are returning this year, too.
