We are in the golf bonus season here in Michigan.
In some years, snow has fallen by mid-October. More often, snow has held off, but the temperatures are struggling to get out of the forties during the day.
On the bonus days of this past week — and hopefully into the next — we have had bright, sunny days in the fifties.
Sunny makes a big difference. I have always thought that with the sun out, the air feels ten degrees warmer than the thermometer suggests.

In truth, it seems as though everything is a month behind right now. Many trees are just now beginning to turn. In my backyard, the sycamores are still green.
Autumn will really test a greenskeeper’s patience, as leaves ground up and swept away in the morning are replace by new ones later in the day. The crew at Washtenaw golf club deserves kudos for how hard they work at it.
Other courses I’ve played have just given up.

I’m really hoping this good weather continues for another week, as I’m hoping to add a few more new courses this season to my “collection.”
