Ben Griffin Just Won With A Bag Of Clubs You’d Never Build On Purpose

I’ll be honest—a lot of PGA Tour What’s In The Bag (WITB) articles are boring. Real boring.

This Ben Griffin WITB is far from that.

From a driver built with amateur forgiveness in mind (we’ve tested it, you can trust us) to a golf ball that’s probably cheaper than the one in your bag, Griffin just won for the second time on Tour in 2025. This time, he took home the trophy at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Here’s a complete look inside the bag that got the job done.

Ben Griffin WITB: At a Glance

Driver: PING G430 Max 10K (9°), UST Mamiya Lin-Q Proto V1 7 TX
3-Wood: TaylorMade Qi35 (15°), UST Mamiya Lin-Q Proto V1 8 TX
Irons: Mizuno JPX 923 Tour (3), Mizuno Pro S3 (4-PW), True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100
Wedges: Mizuno Pro T1 (50°, 56°), TaylorMade MG4 (60° SB), True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400
Putter: Scotty Cameron Concept 2 Tour Prototype
Golf Ball: Maxfli Tour X
Shoes: FootJoy Premiere Series
Grips: Golf Pride MCC

Driver: PING G430 Max 10K (9°)

Shaft: UST Mamiya Lin-Q Proto V1 7 TX

The G430 Max 10K is the most forgiving driver PING has ever made and that statement is not just marketing fluff. We tested it in 2024 and it was the best overall driver. In 2025, it took second place. It’s a clear winner for forgiveness and consistency.

Griffin pairs it with a TX flex Lin-Q shaft, proving that high-speed players can still benefit from max stability and launch.

3-Wood: TaylorMade Qi35 (15°)

Shaft: UST Mamiya Lin-Q Proto V1 8 TX

Griffin opts for the newest Qi35 3-wood, sticking with the same Lin-Q profile. The 8 TX shaft gives him the control he needs off tight fairways without sacrificing ball speed.

Irons: Mizuno JPX 923 Tour (3-iron), Mizuno Pro S3 (4-PW)

Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100

It’s a Mizuno combo set for Griffin but not the one you might expect. He uses a JPX 923 Tour long iron for added forgiveness and precision. He pairs that with the feel and workability of the Mizuno Pro S3 in his scoring clubs.

Wedges: Mizuno Pro T1 (50°, 56°), TaylorMade MG4 (60° SB Grind)

Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400

To add to the golf rainbow of brands Griffin used to win the Charles Schwab, his wedge setup features both Mizuno and TaylorMade. Most players stick to one brand throughout the wedge lineup or maybe toss in a custom WedgeWorks 60-degree. You rarely see a Mizuno-TaylorMade combo but Griffin makes it work.

Putter: Scotty Cameron Concept 2 Tour Prototype

Grip: SuperStroke Zenergy 1.0PT

Griffin’s putter is a true Tour-only option. Scotty Cameron’s Concept 2 Tour Prototype blends a traditional blade shape with Tour-level stability. The Zenergy grip keeps the hands quiet which certainly helped with the green speeds Griffin faced.

Ball: Maxfli Tour X

It’s rare to see a PGA Tour player with a Maxfli ball. But Maxfli makes affordable, high-performing golf balls—and now we know they’re good enough to win on Tour. If you still think you’re too good to play a ball under $50, Ben Griffin might have something to say about that.

Grips: Golf Pride MCC

Like many Tour pros, Griffin relies on the proven performance of the Golf Pride MCC. This grip blends a cord in the upper hand for control with rubber in the lower hand for comfort.

FootJoy Premiere Series Shoes

Griffin trusts the FootJoy Premiere Series, a classic-looking shoe with Tour-level traction. In MyGolfSpy’s 2025 spiked shoe test, the Premiere tied for the top score in traction (9.8/10), thanks to its VersaTrax+ outsole and Pulsar LP cleats.

While it’s firmer underfoot than some modern models, it offers elite ground connection and stability.

Final thoughts

Griffin’s bag features six different brands and a golf ball most Tour players wouldn’t even consider but he’s walking away with $1.7 million and a trophy. The last time we checked, that’ll buy plenty more Maxfli Tour Xs to keep stacking up Sundays like this one.
