This Is What The Jordan 1 Golf Shoe Should Have Been From The Jump

I’m a big fan of the Jordan 1 Low golf shoe.

I’ve been very vocal about it. And I also understand that while I may like it, it isn’t necessarily what I would call a great golf shoe. Nor is it even a good golf shoe.

It’s more of a shoe than a golf shoe.

This year, Jordan Brand finally decided to retool the Jordan 1 Low and I’m happy to report that the new pair is much more suited for the golf course.

It’s puzzling because, in all honesty, the new spiked Jordan 1 Low G is what the Jordan 1 Low should have been all along.

It took them this long to get it right. But I’m glad they did. Here’s what’s new and why it’s better than its spikeless counterpart.

Traction

Of course, the spiked variant provides better traction than its non-spiked brother. That said, it’s not leaps and bounds better. The addition of seven soft spikes definitely helps the traction but there’s still room for at least two more. That, and the rest of the outsole, has been pared down a bit.

Traction is a function of spikes and the secondary traction lugs. I wish this pair had even more spikes and more pronounced secondary lugs. That said, it is better than the spikeless Jordan 1 Low golf shoe.

Cushion

The only other real upgrade, albeit a big one, is the cushion setup. The new spiked Jordan 1 Low golf shoe adds more cushion in the heel, specifically, to go along with the non-visible AIR unit.

Jordan Brand doesn’t cite exactly what foam they’re using here but from what I can tell, it feels like Cushlon. That’s my best, somewhat-educated, guess.

In any case, it’s more responsive and provides some of that initial “squishy” feeling when transitioning from heel to toe. The change here makes for a much more comfortable walking experience.

Anything else?

The elevated cushion and traction come with an elevated price tag, as one would expect. The spiked Jordan 1 Low G will run you about $25 more than the spikeless pair.

Worth it? You betcha. In totality, it’s the closest thing Jordan Brand has to a “performance” retro.
