Michigan is under a blanket of snow and cold right now, so I headed over to Washtenaw Golf Club to get in some swings on their simulators.
The club has three GolfZon stations with a large number of simulated courses to play, but I was just interested in working with my seven iron and pitching wedge. My goal this winter is to shorten my overly-long backswing, which I hope will result in more consistent contact when the I get back out to play on a regular basis this spring.
The nice thing about a simulator setup –as opposed to a regular range — is that I can watch a slow-motion video of each swing for feedback. It really helps to connect feel to results. By the end of the session, I had a much more compact swing (though still not great) and was getting better results.
The most difficult thing was getting the transition and follow-through to feel “right.” From a much shorter backswing position, the second half of the swing feels off.
More reps will make it better, I’m sure. I plan to visit the simulator on a regular basis over the next month.

The weather this next couple of days is supposed to be appallingly cold. Weather forecasters are warning of “exploding trees,” which is a thing in parts of Michigan due to rapid freezing of sap.
That’s not great.
