Earlier today, Takomo announced that the popular golf comedy group of Bob Does Sports is the latest set of influencers to join their stable.
Bob Does Sports joins the Bryan Bros. and Grant Horvat in the Takomo stable, giving the manufacturer marketing through three of the highest-profile YouTube golf channels in the game.
Takomo’s strategy of promoting their direct-to-consumer gear through influencers is definitely hitting a crescendo.
Bob Does adds Takomo to its profile
Bob Does signed with Callaway back in January 2023, so it’s been three years of representing an OEM.
Similar to how Horvat still games a TaylorMade driver, fairway woods and wedges despite the Takomo partnership, I would think the BDS team will stick with Callaway for longer clubs and golf balls.
It has already been announced that the Bob Does squad will play Takomo irons and wedges.
Both the Bryan Bros. and Horvat have equity in Takomo, so it would appear Bob Does has the same type of deal here—without it, I doubt Takomo could do this.
It does seem like a solid bet for them on the marketing side. How great would it be if Bobby Fairways finally breaks 80 while gaming Takomos? It seems like that would hit the exact target audience the brand is going for.
Callaway, which already has Good Good as its golden goose, probably doesn’t lose much here as I don’t think golf fans were associating BDS with Callaway as closely as other influencers with their respective sponsors.
On the BDS side, I wouldn’t expect their content to change too much. They are so big at this point that I think they should have no issue with player access, regardless of how connected to Callaway they are.
What’s in the bag?
Bobby Fairways and Joey Cold Cuts are both playing 201 MKII irons, while Fat Perez is gaming the 301 CB irons. All three of them are playing the SF002 wedges.
The 201 MKII is a players distance iron for 5-25 handicap golfers, according to the Takomo website. They are listed at $649.
The 301 CB is a players’ cavity-back iron that’s mirrors a traditional, tour-level cavity back. It is also listed for the same price.
Both irons come with KBS shafts.
Takomo has not submitted for iron testing the past couple of years so we don’t have data on them.
