Unlike most golfers, I enjoy playing in the cold.
Mostly because it all but guarantees that I can get out there by myself and play without seeing another soul.
But the issue I often run into is layering properly. I tend just to wear hoodies which work for the most part unless it’s really cold.
Then I’m forced to bring a jacket. And most jackets I own are either way too bulky or way too warm. I don’t need a ski jacket to play golf.
My criterion for a golf jacket is simple: it should provide lightweight warmth without restriction. I’ve got a nice KJUS jacket that nails both but it’s actually TOO warm for my purposes. I’ll bring it next time I play golf in Antarctica, not Virginia.
Enter Sunice. I’d never heard of the brand so definitely had never tried anything from them. But the minute I put on their Hamilton Element Shield Hybrid Thermal Hooded Jacket, I knew I’d found my layering piece.
After spending a bunch of time in it, it checks all of my boxes.
- It’s lightweight.
- It’s flexible (the sleeves aren’t restrictive)
- It’s warm enough. Not designed for super-low temps but a perfect middle ground for most coldish days.
- It’s not annoying and loud. Most golf jackets make that dreaded “swishing” sound when you walk. Miss me with that.
Next time I head out in 35-degree weather to sneak in a round by myself, I know which jacket I’m reaching for.
