Sam Burns Is Playing Some Good Golf in 2025 – But He Still Hasn’t Updated His Driver

When new drivers hit the shelves, most professional golfers upgrade. But not everyone on the PGA Tour follows that script. Just ask Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler … and Sam Burns. These players have remained loyal to their trusted models long after new ones became available.

In Burns’s case, it’s especially notable. While he’s quietly putting together a strong 2025 season, he’s still gaming the same driver he’s had in the bag for nearly two years.

A strong 2025 without a new driver

Burns has had a consistent year. Through 21 events, he’s made 18 cuts, posted 10 top-25 finishes and earned more than $4.5 million.

His most notable performance was a runner-up at the RBC Canadian Open, highlighted by a final-round 62.

Statistically, his success is largely thanks to his putter. He ranks second in Strokes Gained putting and 15th in putts per round.

Burns ranks 69th in Strokes Gained off the tee and 52nd in driving distance at 307 yards. Those are respectable numbers, but not elite, and they haven’t improved much since 2023.

What driver is Sam Burns using?

Burns still plays the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond S, set to 10 degrees with a Fujikura Ventus Blue 7 TX shaft. He first switched to the Paradym S in early 2023 and hasn’t moved off it since.

He has made updates elsewhere in his bag. His current 3-wood is the Callaway Elyte Triple Diamond.

Is it time for an upgrade?

Callaway’s Elyte drivers were designed for fast, aggressive players looking for speed, low spin and launch control. With a clubhead speed of over 118 mph, Burns checks all those boxes. The Elyte Triple Diamond won our Best Golf Driver of 2025 test.

So why not switch?

Maybe it’s comfort. Maybe it’s consistency. Or maybe he’s waiting to see what Callaway launches next.

Final thoughts

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are still using the TaylorMade Qi10, despite newer models hitting the market. For some players, switching isn’t worth the risk if the current setup still performs.

Burns may not be leading the field in driving stats but with his short game doing the heavy lifting, the Paradym Triple Diamond S remains in play—for now.
