Women’s Western Amateur set for championship debut at Red Run Golf Club

ROYAL OAK, Michigan – The 125th edition of the Women’s Western Amateur is set to bring a world-class field of international standouts to the Detroit area and Red Run Golf Club on July 15-20, 2025.

The competition will begin with 18 holes of stroke-play qualifying on Tuesday and Wednesday. The field will then be cut to the low 32 players for match play starting on Thursday, with five rounds of 18-hole matches determining the 2025 champion.

Texas standout Farah O’Keefe – the No. 7 player in the World Amateur Golf Ranking – is the reigning Women’s Western Amateur champion and will look to defend her title against one of the strongest fields in women’s amateur golf.

First held in 1901 and played annually without interruption, the Women’s Western Amateur is one of the oldest championships in women’s amateur golf. Its list of past champions features iconic names such as Patty Berg (1938), Louise Suggs (1946, 1947), Brittany Lang (2003), Stacy Lewis (2006) and Ariya Jutanugarn (2012).

This will be Red Run Golf Club’s first Women’s Western Golf Association championship. Founded in 1914, the club has hosted several prestigious tournaments, including the 1958 Western Open (won by Doug Sanders) and the 2016 Western Junior (won by Sean Maruyama). Designed by renowned Golden Age architects Tom Bendelow and Willie Park, Jr., the course is widely regarded as one of Michigan’s premier layouts.

The club is also a proud supporter of the Evans Scholars Foundation, a WGA-administered charity that has awarded full tuition and housing scholarships to more than 13,100 caddies since 1930. More than 100 Red Run caddies have received the Evans Scholarship in the club’s history.

The championship field represents the pinnacle of amateur golf, with collective achievements including:
