BOYNE Golf’s Sarah White Bombs Away On LPGA Epson Tour

BOYNE Golf’s Sarah White Bombs Away on LPGA Epson Tour Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands Starts Friday

HARBOR SPRINGS – The LPGA Epson Tour is in Michigan for a three-week stretch and this weekend, Friday through Sunday, the stop is for the Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands presented by Johnnie Walker.

It’s a home game on The Heather course at The Highlands for Epson Tour player Sarah White in a couple of ways.

She is a Grand Rapids native, so making a swing through Michigan gives her a chance to see family and friends.

And recently, BOYNE Golf, which includes The Heather among its 11 golf courses at three resorts in Michigan, welcomed White as its newest brand ambassador in golf.

“We are very excited to be aligning ourselves with one of the top up-and-coming women golfers from Michigan to help promote the BOYNE Golf brand nationwide,” Josh Richter, PGA, Senior Vice President of Golf Operations for BOYNE Golf said in making the announcement.

“Sarah is a wonderful player and a great ambassador for BOYNE Golf. As she continues to grow in her professional career, we look forward to being a part of her journey.”

White, 27 and professional since 2020 when just out of college at Texas State University she received a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Epson Tour’s Founders Tribute Championship. She not only played but won with her trademark bombing drives off the tee that have identified her as one of the longest drivers in women’s golf.

That win put her on the Epson Tour for the first time, and she is still bombing, averaging 302 yards in 2024 and she has been the leader in average driving distance for the past three seasons on the Tour.

This year she has made six of seven cuts with a top finish of 14th so far, and last week she missed the Epson Tour’s stop in Battle Creek for the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship because she played in her second LPGA Tour event of the season, the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey. She has missed the two cuts in her LPGA starts but called the two tournaments wonderful opportunities to gain experience.

“I reinforced to myself that I can compete here and on the LPGA Tour with the best players in the world,” she said. “Overall, my game has not been quite where I want it to be but I’m making cuts on the Epson Tour, improving and excited to represent BOYNE Golf and Michigan this weekend. To have the support in my home state is one of the best things that has happened to me in my career, and I’m thrilled that BOYNE and so many people here believe in me.”

Next week, she will be in the Island Resort Championship in Harris to finish out the Michigan stops that are part of the Epson Tour’s efforts to create regional clusters of events to simply travel for the players.

White said travel isn’t a problem for her, though she loves coming home to Michigan and especially Northern Michigan to play golf at a BOYNE Golf resort. Her boyfriend, currently serving in the Air Force, is flying into Michigan this weekend to caddie for her. Her family and friends are coming in from Grand Rapids.

“I don’t look at it as pressure when I’m home,” said the former state high school champion, Michigan Girls’ Junior champion and 2020 Michigan PGA Women’s Open champion.

“The goal every week is to win, so I plan to try my best to win. That’s the way I always play.”

White will tee off in Friday’s first round of the 54-hole $250,000 championship at 8:36 a.m.

The winner Sunday will take home $37,500 and a shot at another $20,000 in bonus money is available because The Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Epson Tour created the Pure Michigan Cup.

The Pure Michigan Cup money will be distributed to the top three points earners at the conclusion of the Michigan stretch of tournaments, which includes last week’s FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in Battle Creek, this week’s Great Lakes Championship at The Highlands and next week’s Island Resort Championship in Harris. To be eligible the players must have played in each of the three tournaments. Points are awarded based on finish positions, and the top point earner will get $10,000. Second place gets a bonus of $6,000 and third $4,000.
